Frequently Asked Questions
This Bootcamp is designed for high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates (ages 16–18) who are preparing for college or other post-high school transitions. It’s a great fit for teens who are excited but nervous, want to feel more emotionally and practically prepared, and benefit from a structured space to build skills and confidence.
The Bootcamp runs for six consecutive weeks, with one 90-minute session each week. Each week builds on the last, helping participants build emotional readiness, time management tools, and self-confidence over time.
This is a skills-based bootcamp, not traditional therapy. While led by a licensed clinician, the Bootcamp focuses on practical tools, peer connection, and structured emotional support. It does not replace weekly therapy, but it can complement ongoing care or serve as a launchpad for teens new to mental health support.
Absolutely! The Bootcamp works well alongside individual therapy. With parent/teen consent, we’re happy to coordinate with your teen’s therapist to make sure the group aligns with their goals and supports their ongoing work.
We keep this group intentionally small—usually 6 to 8 participants—to promote safety, connection, and meaningful engagement.
The Bootcamp is led by Shayna Finn, PhD, LAPC (she/her), a clinician who specializes in college adjustment, anxiety, and career readiness. Shayna creates a warm, structured space where teens can explore their fears, build practical strategies, and feel genuinely supported as they prepare for what's next.
Each week includes:
- Guided discussions about key college transition themes (like homesickness, stress, and social life)
- Hands-on activities like creating a self-care plan, journaling, vision boards, and time-management tools
- Psychoeducation and real-life examples (including college website deep-dives and boundary-setting scripts)
- Reflection prompts and group connection
By the end of the Bootcamp, your teen will leave with:
- ✅ A personalized self-care and emotional wellness plan
- ✅ A college-ready time management toolkit
- ✅ A creative vision board and letter to their future self
- ✅ Coping strategies for homesickness, stress, and FOMO
- ✅ Tools for setting boundaries and asking for help
- ✅ A sense of clarity, confidence, and readiness for the next chapter
Not at all. Sharing is always optional. Teens are invited to participate in ways that feel safe and comfortable—whether that’s talking, writing, reflecting silently, or engaging in activities. Respect for each participant’s boundaries is a top priority.
Yes. Shayna facilitates the Bootcamp with a trauma-informed lens. Emotional safety, grounding techniques, breaks, and pacing are woven throughout to help teens stay regulated and engaged. Teens are never pushed to go deeper than feels right.
No—this is a closed group, meaning all participants commit to the full 6-week series. This creates trust, continuity, and a strong sense of group cohesion, which is essential for meaningful growth.
The Bootcamp is a private-pay program and not billable to insurance.
Aside from helping your teen with scheduling, paperwork, and payment, there’s no direct parent involvement. With teen consent, Shayna can offer a brief summary after the final session with suggestions for how parents can support their teen’s transition to college.
Not quite. This Bootcamp is a structured supplement, not a replacement for therapy. It’s ideal for teens who aren’t ready to commit to weekly sessions, want a focused boost before college, or are already in therapy and want extra support around this life transition.
That’s okay—and expected. The group is structured to help teens ease in gradually. Activities are varied and include quiet reflection, creative tasks, and optional discussion, so even more reserved teens can participate in a way that feels safe and authentic.
There’s no required homework, but some teens may want to continue journaling, decorating their vision board, or using their planner or self-care tools between sessions. We’ll also send a short summary email at the end of the series with a recap and optional ways to keep momentum going.
We ask families to commit to all six weeks, but we understand life happens. If your teen needs to miss a session, Shayna will offer a summary of key topics and tools they missed so they can stay connected and engaged. There are no refunds for missed sessions.
